I am Dr. Krystal Ferrell, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, a Southern girl with a modern and untraditional perspective, and a dedicated therapist passionate about helping individuals and couples navigate life’s challenges and discover their inner strengths. With a warm and empathetic approach, I provide a safe space where you can explore, heal, and grow. I enjoy working with individuals and couples who want to be heard, feel seen, and accepted unapologetically for who they are, what they believe, and the pathway to which they choose to live their lives. I believe every client possesses all the answers and solutions within, but with my help, the client can sort through, navigate, and understand those answers. As an alumna of an HBCU and pledging the first African American sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, I have experienced different realms of diversity and connected with so many individuals from various walks of life. After graduating from Tuskegee University and receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I progressed to receiving my first Master’s degree in Child and Adolescent Psychology, and my second Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. During that time, I also became a Certified Life Coach and found a true passion for working with women to rediscover their feminine power and help increase their self-esteem and confidence as a Femininity Coach. I am also a Pre-Marital Counselor through the certification program of Prepare & Enrich. I enjoy seeing couples win together, laugh together, and grow together. Helping couples prepare for the next stage of their relationship is a journey that I believe is filled with new discoveries and its’ own set of challenges that I have helped couples navigate through. I continued my educational path and received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Throughout the years of my educational career, I have gained experience in supporting clients through various life transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and more. My therapeutic style integrates evidence-based practices with a deep respect for your unique journey and cultural background using models such as experiential therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and tools from Gottman’s couples approach.
In my work as a therapist, I have witnessed firsthand the negative impact that social media can have on individuals and families. I saw how social media can lead to isolation, depression, and anxiety. I also noticed how it can damage relationships and can lead to addiction. I became passionate about helping people who were struggling with social media addiction, and I entered my doctoral program with a keen interest in this topic. I spent years studying and understanding the psychology behind this new phenomenon, and I am passionate about raising awareness about the dangers of social media addiction. I believe that social media can be a powerful tool, but it can also be very harmful. I want to help people understand the risks of excessive usage of social media and how to protect themselves. I successfully defended my dissertation on social media addiction and its effects on our brain, sleep patterns, way of life, relationships, productivity, and so much more. I’ve created an online course on the effects of social media addiction and plan to continue developing more research in this field. As an expert in social media addiction, I work with adolescents, couples, families, and individuals and provide the tools necessary to develop a healthy relationship with social media.
I am enthusiastic about helping people live their best lives. I believe that everyone has the potential to be happy and fulfilled, and I want to help people reach their full potential. I am committed to providing my clients with the tools and support they need to overcome their challenges and live their best lives. A typical session with me might look like high fives when you’ve experienced your “Aha” moment or the metaphoric feeling of a big sister holding your hand as we are processing some of your deepest and most intimate experiences and memories. My primary style of therapy is experiential therapy (although I do incorporate various skills and techniques from other therapeutic approaches). Experiential therapy is a type of therapy that uses activities and exercises to help people explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is based on the idea that people learn best through experience and that by participating in activities that are relevant to their lives, they can gain new insights and make lasting changes. In a therapy session, I might include activities that involve role-playing, expressive arts, and even adventure therapy. Experiential therapy can be a helpful approach for a variety of problems, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, and relationship problems.
My areas of expertise include couples’ infidelity recovery, premarital counseling, navigating through the effects of social media addiction, anxiety, perinatal mood and anxiety disorder, suicidal ideation, self-esteem issues, dating, communication, and reconstructing & developing mindset shifts.
